Block Stack

About Block Stack

Block Stack is a falling-block puzzle. Seven shapes of four blocks fall into a 10 × 20 well one at a time; move and rotate each one so it fits the stack. A full row clears and scores, and the game ends when a new piece has no room at the top.

Clearing 1, 2, 3, or 4 rows at once scores 100, 300, 500, or 800 points times the level, and soft and hard drops add a little more. Every 10 lines raise the level and the speed. Start at level 1, 5, or 10; your high score for each start level stays in this browser.

  • Start at level 1, 5, or 10; the speed rises every 10 lines
  • Keyboard, touch gestures, and on-screen buttons

Frequently asked questions

Where is my high score saved?

In this browser's local storage only, one high score per start level, together with the sound setting. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing site data removes it.

What are the controls?

Left and Right or A and D move, Up, W, or X rotates right, Z or Q rotates left, Down or S drops faster, Space drops the piece at once, C or Shift holds it, and P pauses. On a phone, drag on the board to move, swipe down to drop, swipe up to rotate, tap to pause, or use the buttons below the board.

What do hold and the ghost piece do?

Hold puts the current piece aside and brings back the one held before, once per piece. The outline at the bottom of the well, the ghost piece, shows where the piece will land.

Is there a speed limit?

The pieces keep falling faster up to level 20, where they drop almost at once. Higher levels keep scoring more but do not get faster.

Fit the falling pieces together. A full row clears and scores; the game ends when the stack reaches the top.
