Minesweeper

About Minesweeper

Minesweeper is the classic logic puzzle from early desktop computers. Mines hide under a grid of covered cells. Reveal a cell and it shows how many of the eight cells around it hold a mine; reveal a mine and the game is over. Use the numbers to work out which cells are safe and flag the ones that are not.

Choose Easy (9 × 9, 10 mines), Medium (16 × 16, 40 mines), or Hard (16 × 30, 99 mines). Mines are placed after your first click, away from that cell and its neighbors, so every game starts with an open area. The game times each board and keeps your fastest win for each difficulty in this browser.

Features

  • Three difficulties, from 10 to 99 mines
  • A safe first click that always opens an area
  • Flags by right-click, long-press, or a Flag tap mode
  • Chording: click a number to open the cells around it
  • Fastest win saved for each difficulty
  • Full keyboard play with the arrow keys, Enter, and F

How to play

  1. Choose a difficulty and click any cell to start.
  2. Read the numbers and flag the cells that must be mines.
  3. Reveal every safe cell to win, and try to beat your best time.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my best time saved?

In this browser's local storage only, one fastest win per difficulty. It is never uploaded, and clearing site data removes it.

How do I place a flag on a phone?

Press and hold a cell, or set “Tap to” to Flag in the game settings so a tap places or removes a flag. With a mouse, right-click. With the keyboard, move with the arrow keys and press F.

Can the first click hit a mine?

No. Mines are placed only after your first click, never on that cell or the eight around it, so the first click always opens an area.

Are there question marks or custom boards?

No. Cells are hidden, flagged, or revealed, and the boards are the three fixed difficulties. Hard is the classic 99-mine board turned upright so it fits a phone screen.

Reveal every cell without a mine. Each number tells how many mines touch that cell.
