About Redact Image & PDF

Redact Image & PDF hides private details before you share a document: ID card (KTP) numbers, bank account numbers, signatures, addresses, or faces. Draw solid boxes over a photo or any page of a PDF, or type a number and let the tool find and mark every place it appears in the PDF text.

A black rectangle drawn on a PDF in most editors leaves the text underneath, where anyone can copy it. This tool turns every PDF page that has a box into an image with the box burned in, so the covered text is removed, and copies the other pages unchanged. Images are redrawn from their pixels, so EXIF and GPS details are not copied. Everything runs in your browser.

Features

  • Solid boxes in black, white, or any color, drawn by mouse, touch, or pen
  • Move, resize, or delete boxes, with undo and redo and keyboard support
  • Find & redact: search PDF text and mark every match, ignoring spaces and dashes
  • True PDF redaction: pages with boxes are flattened so hidden text is gone
  • Other PDF pages keep their selectable text
  • Save a redacted image as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or a one-page PDF, without EXIF or GPS metadata
  • No upload: files never leave your device

How to use

  1. Choose or drop a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image, or a PDF.
  2. Drag boxes over the private details, or search the PDF text and mark the matches. Check every page.
  3. Pick the output settings and download the redacted file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The image or PDF is opened, redacted, and saved in your browser, and nothing is sent anywhere. Closing the page discards it.

Can someone remove the boxes or recover the text?

No. In a PDF, every page with a box is rebuilt as an image with the box drawn into its pixels, so the covered text, images, and form values on that page are not in the downloaded file. Images are saved with the box drawn into the pixels too. Pages without boxes are copied unchanged, so check that every sensitive page has a box.

Why can't I select text on some pages after redacting?

Flattened pages are images, so their text is no longer selectable or searchable. Only pages with boxes are flattened. Choose 300 DPI for sharper flattened pages, or 150 DPI for a smaller file.

Does Find & redact work on scanned documents?

Only when the PDF has a text layer. The tool does not perform OCR, so scanned pages and photos need boxes drawn by hand. Search boxes are placed from the text positions in the PDF and can be slightly off, so review them before downloading.

What are the limits and formats?

One file at a time: a PNG, JPEG, or WebP image up to 50 MB and 50 megapixels, or a PDF up to 100 MB and 500 pages. Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened. Images download as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or a one-page PDF sized to the image, A4, or Letter. A redacted PDF does not keep the original's bookmarks, attachments, or document details, and form fields on other pages may stop being editable.

Cover ID card numbers, bank accounts, signatures, or addresses with solid boxes before you share a photo or PDF. PDF pages with boxes are flattened so the hidden text is really gone. Nothing is uploaded.
